April 29 and 30, 2012:
In the second to last weekend of the semester, the UMass / Five College Sailing Team competed in the 5th and last Southern Series event of the semester at Salve Regina University in scenic Newport, Rhode Island. The team took 8th place out of 11 colleges attending. The Providence Friars won the regatta a 234 point tie breaker against The Brown Bears; with 5 bullets each, Providence's three 2 place finishes won over Brown's two 2nds. Winds varied greatly from less than 5 knots to gusts of 20+, shifting often.
Boat A was skippered by Johannes Raatz (UMass, '15), B by Alex Dion (Mount Holyoke, '15). Three crews subbed in and out during the regatta: Emmie Schreck (UMass, '13), Marco Catipovic (Amherst, '14), and Olivia Recht (Smith, '15).
