Event Time and Date
J’ouvert is an outdoor cultural gathering that originates from Trinidad and Tobago but is celebrated in many countries throughout the Caribbean, taking on different forms. This traditional event happens at the crack of dawn
on the day of the Caribbean Festival. It is a tradition to gather outdoors to celebrate with music and dancing. The tradition also involves smearing paint, mud or oil on the bodies of participants known as "Jab Jabs”. This celebration commemorates the emancipation
from slavery in 1838, where slaves would host J'ouvert as a celebration. We will be using a non-toxic, biodegradable powdered paint.
